Applebee's Best Desserts, Explained: What Each Dish Is Actually Like and Which One to Order

Applebee's Best Desserts, Explained: What Each Dish Is Actually Like and Which One to Order
Short answer: Order the Triple Chocolate Meltdown ($8.99, 910 calories) if you want the signature dessert. Order the Sizzling Caramel Apple Blondie ($9.49, 990 calories) if you want theatre at the table and a dessert built for sharing. Order the Brownie Bite ($3.99, 330 calories) if you want something sweet without a full dessert plate or a second large course. Every price below is this guide's listed menu price — Applebee's is franchised, so your restaurant's price can differ, and independent trackers currently list both lower and higher local prices for the same dishes. Checked November 4, 2026.

Most people do not need a ranking. They need the right sweet finish for their table, so start here:

You want the cheapest, lightest sweet finishBrownie Bite, $3.99A warm bite-sized brownie with ice cream and hot fudge, at just 330 calories
You are ordering for two after a big mealOne Blondie or one Meltdown, two spoonsBoth are large, rich plates; one shared dessert beats two full ones

Every Dessert, With the Numbers That Actually Matter

The figures below are the listed figures from our desserts menu. Protein, fat and sugar are quoted only where our nutrition chart publishes them for that exact dish; the Blondie has no exact nutrition row there, so no macros are quoted for it. Read the honest note on figures below before comparing these prices with other sites — several trackers quote both lower and higher local prices for the same dishes.

DessertPriceCaloriesWhat stands out
Triple Chocolate Meltdown$8.99910Signature; 87g sugars, 12g protein; molten centre
Sizzling Caramel Apple Blondie$9.49990Heaviest here; skillet theatre; best shared
Brownie Bite$3.99330Cheapest and lightest; smallest plate by far

Two things jump out. First, the whole dessert menu spans only $5.50 ($3.99 to $9.49), but the calorie spread is threefold: the Blondie at 990 calories is exactly three times the Brownie Bite at 330. Second, there are only three desserts on our desserts page, so this is a short menu with no filler — every choice is a real, distinct kind of sweet finish, and the ranking below is about which kind suits your table, not about rescuing a weak list.

1. Triple Chocolate Meltdown: The Signature, and the One to Order First

What you get: a warm chocolate cake with a molten fudge centre, hot fudge on top and vanilla ice cream on the side, $8.99, at 910 calories. Our nutrition chart puts it at 48g fat, 25g saturated fat, 87g sugars and 12g protein, with milk, eggs, wheat and soy allergens.

How it eats: hot and cold at once — the cake splits to a liquid centre, the ice cream melts into the fudge, and the whole plate is richer than it looks. It is the dessert other guides call the single most iconic dessert in casual dining, and a 2021 Mashed poll of 604 diners found it the favourite at 37%. That poll is old, and it is quoted here as colour rather than as a current vote, but the dish's position has not changed: every current tracker still leads its dessert list with it.

One honest counterpoint: 87 grams of sugars is the highest sugar figure on this page by a wide margin, and one tracker lists the Meltdown at 1,070 calories rather than 910. Our 910 follows our nutrition chart, which matches most trackers; treat the higher figure as a reminder that portions and preparation vary by restaurant.

Skip it if: you do not like very sweet chocolate desserts, you want something light after a heavy meal, or you want a fruity rather than chocolate finish — that is the Blondie below.

2. Sizzling Caramel Apple Blondie: The Theatre Pick, and the Heaviest Plate

What you get: a warm blondie topped with cinnamon-spiced apples and vanilla ice cream, served on a hot cast-iron skillet with caramel poured over at the table, $9.49, at 990 calories — the heaviest dessert here.

How it eats: like a dessert with a performance attached. The skillet arrives hot, the caramel goes over at the table, and the ice cream melts into warm apples and buttery blondie. It is the fruity counterpoint to the Meltdown: cinnamon and apple rather than chocolate, and the only dessert here that feels like an event rather than a plate. The same 2021 Mashed poll put this blondie second at 30% of votes — yet a separate Mashed worst-dessert poll from the same era ranked it the least popular at 38%. Both polls are old, and together they say something useful: this is the most polarising dessert on the menu, loved for its theatre and fruit, disliked by diners who found it too sweet or too rich.

Order it smarter: share it. At 990 calories and $9.49, one Blondie with two spoons is a better end to a meal for two than two full desserts, and it keeps the skillet moment intact. No exact nutrition row for the Blondie is published in our nutrition chart, so no fat, sugar or protein figure is quoted for it here; a tracker allergen listing gives wheat, milk, soy and egg.

Skip it if: you dislike cinnamon apples or caramel, you are eating alone after a full meal, or you are ordering takeout — a sizzling skillet loses its signature effect in a box, even though the flavour still delivers.

3. Brownie Bite: The Cheapest, Lightest, and Smallest

What you get: a bite-sized warm dark chocolate brownie served with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with hot fudge, $3.99, at 330 calories. Our nutrition chart puts it at 15g fat, 34g sugars and 4g protein, with milk, eggs, wheat and soy allergens.

How it eats: exactly like a small, warm brownie should — fudgy, chocolatey, gone quickly. It is the only dessert here that does not turn the meal into a second large course, and at $3.99 it is also the only dessert that is cheaper than most side orders. Trackers agree on both figures unusually well: $3.99 and 330 calories appear across three-city September 2026 data and multiple independent lists.

The honest limit: this is a bite, not a plate. If you arrive wanting a proper dessert experience — the molten centre, the skillet, the shared moment — the Brownie Bite will feel like an appetiser for your sweet tooth rather than the finish itself. Order it when you want sweetness, not spectacle.

Skip it if: you want a full dessert, you are sharing with a table (one bite does not split), or chocolate brownie is not your flavour — the Blondie is the only non-chocolate-led option here.

Sharing, or Solo?

The Meltdown and the Blondie are both built for two spoons, even though neither is marketed as a shared dessert. The Meltdown's own coverage calls it a shareable finish, and the Blondie's 990 calories make sharing the sensible default after a full meal. The Brownie Bite is the opposite: a solo, post-meal punctuation mark, and the right order for one person who only wants a taste of something sweet. If the table cannot agree, order one Meltdown and one Brownie Bite rather than two full desserts — the chocolate lovers get their molten cake, and the lighter eater gets a finish without another 900-calorie plate.

An Honest Note on Figures

Applebee's does not publish one national price list — its restaurants are franchised, and location menus show the Meltdown from $8.49 on some trackers to $10.79 at one Connecticut restaurant listing, against our listed $8.99. Three-city September 2026 data captured from Applebee's own live ordering menus puts the Meltdown at $9.49–$9.99 and the Brownie Bite flat at $3.99 everywhere checked. The prices in this guide are our listed menu prices, last verified November 2, 2026, and your restaurant's price can differ in either direction. Calories follow the same pattern: the Meltdown is quoted at 910 calories by most trackers and our nutrition chart, but at 1,070 by one tracker, so compare like with like and expect small preparation differences.

You May See Elsewhere: Desserts Not Ranked Here

Three more skillet desserts appear on tracker lists and some location menus but are not on our desserts category page, so they are not ranked here and no listed price of ours is asserted for them. The Sizzlin' Caramel Apple Pie (tracker range $7.99–$9.49, about 1,030 calories) and the Sizzlin' Butter Pecan Blondie ($7.99–$9.49, about 1,020 calories) are the two most widely reported, and a Sizzlin' Cookie Dough Pie appears as a store-level variant — on one city's menu but not others in the same September 2026 dataset. Older lists also name a Blue Ribbon Brownie, which no longer appears on current tracker dessert lists. If your restaurant offers one of these skillet desserts, ask about it by name; if it lands on our desserts page, this ranking will be updated.

Getting the Best Value on Dessert Night

The cheapest route to a sweet finish is the Brownie Bite at $3.99 — no deal, coupon or bundle is needed to beat it. The best shared value is one Blondie or one Meltdown split between two people, which halves the per-person dessert cost to about $4.50–$4.75 and halves the calories too. Desserts are not part of the 2 for $25 deal, which covers an appetiser and two entrées, so do not expect a dessert discount there; for the full deal picture, see our specials and deals page and our 2 for $25 upcharge guide before ordering. And if dessert is only the end of a larger order, our best steaks guide and best chicken guide cover the main course that came before it.

Methodology: How This Ranking Was Built

Prices and calories are taken from our own menu and nutrition data (prices last verified November 2, 2026), cross-checked November 4, 2026 against two independent trackers — a September 2026 three-city dataset captured from Applebee's own live ordering menus, and a second independent dessert list — plus published diner polls (Mashed, 2021, labelled old where quoted) and dessert coverage. Taste judgements follow those published sources and the dishes' own descriptions, not our own kitchen: where sources disagreed, both views are reported. Dishes are ranked by overall recommendation — distinctiveness, flavour, theatre, value and how the plate fits after a full meal — not by price or calories alone, which is why the heaviest dessert sits second and the cheapest sits third.
