Applebee's 2 for $25 vs Chili's 3 for Me: Which Saves a Couple More?

How the Two Deals Actually Work
These deals look similar and are built for different tables. Applebee's 2 for $25 is a meal for two: one full-size appetizer and two whole entrées for $25 — "Dinner For Two, Priced For One," as Applebee's own deal page puts it. Chili's 3 for Me is a meal for one person: pick a beverage, a starter and a main, starting at $10.99, per Chili's own menu page. A couple at Chili's orders two of them. That structural difference — one shared deal vs two individual deals — drives every number in this comparison.
| Deal | Built for | What you get | Price | Drinks | Dessert |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Applebee's 2 for $25 | Two people | 1 full-size appetizer (or 2 side salads) + 2 whole entrées | $25 flat | Not included — extra | Not included — extra |
| Chili's 3 for Me | One person | 1 bottomless non-alcoholic drink + 1 starter + 1 entrée | From $10.99 per person | Included (non-alcoholic) | Not included — $2.49 sweeten add-on |
Two more structural facts matter. Applebee's lets you swap the shared appetizer for two side salads at no extra cost — the move that also cuts the meal's calories the most. And Chili's starter slot is a small plate (chips and salsa, a cup of soup or a side salad), not a full appetizer — so the two deals are not swapping like for like on the first course.
The Couple Math, Scenario by Scenario
All figures below are arithmetic from the verified prices above — $25 flat at Applebee's, $10.99 per person at Chili's base tier, $2.49 per Chili's add-on, $8.99 for Applebee's Triple Chocolate Meltdown from our own menu data — before tax and tip, and before any local price variation. Premium Chili's tiers are third-party reported (see the tier-price warning below), so the premium row is a range, not a single price.
| Scenario (two people) | Applebee's 2 for $25 | Two Chili's 3 for Me | Winner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base tier, no dessert | $25.00 | $21.98 (2 × $10.99) | Chili's — by $3.02, plus drinks included |
| With dessert | $33.99 ($25 + $8.99 shared Meltdown) | $26.96 (2 × $11.98 with $2.49 sweeten each) | Chili's — by $7.03, and each person gets a dessert |
| Premium entrées | $25.00 flat (up to $30.00 if both picks carry a $2.50 location upcharge) | $31.98–$33.98 (2 × $15.99–$16.99 reported premium tier) | Applebee's — by $1.98–$8.98 |
| One person eating alone | $25.00 (you are paying for two entrées) | $10.99 | Chili's — not close |
Read the table as a whole and the pattern is clear: Chili's is the cheaper deal whenever you stay on its base tier, because $10.99 a head undercuts $12.50 a head and throws in drinks. Applebee's takes over when the order gets ambitious — premium entrées, a shared appetizer worth eating, or a table that wants one big starter rather than two small ones.
One correction to the roundups: some comparison pages claim Applebee's 2 for $25 beats Chili's 3 for Me "by a few dollars per couple" without showing the working. At base tier the receipt runs the other way — $21.98 against $25. The claim only becomes true at the premium tier, where it is true by a wide margin.
Where Applebee's Wins
The shared appetizer is a real course. Applebee's gives the table one full-size appetizer — the newest is the Bacon Cheeseburger Wonton Tacos, confirmed on Applebee's deal page today — while Chili's gives each person a starter of chips and salsa, soup or a side salad. If your idea of a night out includes splitting something substantial, Applebee's is the only one of the two that actually serves it.
Premium picks don't move the price. Most 2 for $25 picks are included at the flat $25, and even where locations add a surcharge, the reported figure is typically $2.50 per premium pick ($3.00 for the Riblet Platter) — so the worst case for two premium picks is $30.00. At Chili's, stepping up to sirloin or Cajun pasta moves both people to the premium tier and the couple's bill past $31.98. The 6 oz Top Sirloin is even included at the flat $25 where Applebee's offers it.
The entrées are full-size, and the list is strong. Fiesta Lime Chicken (1,190 calories, 61g protein), Bourbon Street Chicken & Shrimp (1,010 calories, 57g protein), California Grilled Chicken Salad (920 calories, the lightest entrée on the deal) and the O-M-Cheese-adilla Burger, added August 31, 2026 — though that one is dine-in only, so a To Go order can't include it. The full current list lives on our 2 for $25 menu page, and our best-combos guide ranks which pairings save the most.
No end date announced. Applebee's has not announced an end date for the 2 for $25, and it runs dine-in, To Go and delivery. It is a standing deal, not a countdown offer — though franchisees set local prices and availability, so your restaurant's menu is the final word.
Where Chili's Wins
The base-tier price is simply lower. $21.98 for two people with drinks included is the cheapest sit-down dinner for two either chain offers, and it is available for dine-in, curbside and delivery according to third-party listings. For a couple watching the bill, that $3.02 gap — plus whatever two fountain drinks would cost at Applebee's — is real money.
Drinks are built in. Every 3 for Me includes a bottomless non-alcoholic drink: fountain drink, iced tea or lemonade. At Applebee's, drinks are on top of the $25, which widens Chili's lead on any night when both people order a soda. (Alcohol is a different story: Chili's charges $2.49 to "spike" a meal with a margarita, beer or wine — still cheap, but no longer included.)
Dessert is a $2.49 decision, not an $8.99 one. Add "sweeten" to a 3 for Me and you get a dessert — cheesecake among the options — for $2.49 per person. Two desserts for $4.98 against one shared Triple Chocolate Meltdown at $8.99 is the single biggest swing in the comparison, and it is why the dessert row of the table above leans so hard toward Chili's.
It works for one person. A solo diner at Chili's pays $10.99 for a complete meal. A solo diner at Applebee's pays $25 for two entrées and a shared appetizer — fine if you want tomorrow's lunch too, but not a value deal. Chili's also gives My Chili's Rewards members free chips and salsa or a drink per visit, a small perk that stacks with the deal rather than replacing it.
What Chili's Premium Tiers Actually Cost
Chili's menu page publishes only one 3 for Me price: "starting at $10.99" — there is no national tier schedule. The mid tier (Chicken Crispers, quesadillas) and the premium tier (Classic Sirloin, Cajun Chicken or Shrimp Pasta, Cilantro-Lime Carne Asada) are priced by each restaurant, and in October 2026 the premium tier runs about $15.99–$16.99 depending on location. So before you plan a night around a premium pick, check the price in the Chili's app or on your local menu first — that range, not a single number, is the honest answer.
The same applies on our side: Applebee's publishes no national upcharge list either — the $2.50/$3.00 surcharges above are what locations commonly charge for premium picks, and your restaurant may differ. Item-by-item detail is in our 2 for $25 upcharge guide.
The Fine Print on Both Sides
Neither deal is quite as simple as its headline price. At Applebee's, price, participation and selection may vary by restaurant — the chain is almost entirely franchised — and premium picks can carry a surcharge at some locations. The O-M-Cheese-adilla Burger is dine-in only. At Chili's, prices vary by location, the $2.49 spike/dip/sweeten add-ons each cost $2.49 (so two add-ons add about $5, three about $7.50), and the starter is a small plate, not a shareable appetizer. Both deals exclude tax and tip. And both chains' happy hours are a separate game: our happy-hour guide compares Applebee's half-price appetizers against Chili's $6 Margarita of the Month if drinks are what you actually care about.
What to Order If You Pick Applebee's
Order the shared appetizer you actually want to split — the Bacon Cheeseburger Wonton Tacos are the current novelty — then pair one rich entrée (Bourbon Street Chicken & Shrimp, 1,010 calories) with one lighter one (California Grilled Chicken Salad, 920 calories) so the table doesn't collapse under two 1,400-plus-calorie plates. If both of you want steak, the 6 oz Top Sirloin at the flat $25 where offered is the best value on either chain's deal menu. Full savings math and the highest-value combos are in our 2 for $25 value guide; calories and allergens for every pick are in our nutrition guide.
What to Order If You Pick Chili's
Stay on the base tier and the deal does its best work: the Big Smasher Burger (950 calories), the Oldtimer with Cheese (850 calories) or the Big Crispy Chicken Sandwich (880 calories), each with chips and salsa or a side salad and a bottomless drink, for $10.99. Add the $2.49 sweeten if you want dessert — it is the cheapest dessert in casual dining. Step up to the premium tier only if you specifically want sirloin or Cajun pasta, and check your local tier price first, because that is where prices vary most by location.
